The Harris James Journal
There is still plenty to be interested in.
People worth meeting.
Places worth discovering.
Things worth knowing.
Food worth travelling for.
Homes worth looking around.
Stories worth hearing.
And occasionally an idea that makes you see something differently.
Welcome to the Harris James Journal.

Growing older doesn't make the world less interesting.
Why should what you read become less interesting too?
The Harris James Journal isn't about telling people how to grow older.
It's about continuing to find interesting things to talk about while they do.
The Journal is coming
We're collecting things worth talking about.
Interesting people.
Places worth knowing.
Good food.
Beautiful homes.
Ideas.
Stories.
And probably a few things we haven't thought of yet.
The Harris James Journal is taking shape.
It will be worth coming back for.
What you'll find here
People
Interesting lives, conversations and perspectives.
Places
Somewhere worth discovering, visiting or simply knowing about.
Food & Drink
People, places, ingredients, restaurants, traditions and experiences worth talking about.
Home & Garden
Beautiful, intelligent and interesting ways of thinking about the places we live.
Culture
Books, music, theatre, art, history, craftsmanship and ideas.
Life
Observations, experiences and stories about living well.
Each will open as the first pieces are published.
People
Everyone knows something you don't.
A chef.
An artist.
A gardener.
An auctioneer.
A musician.
A business founder.
Someone who spent their life doing something extraordinary.
Or somebody whose apparently ordinary life turns out to contain a remarkable story.
We'd quite like to talk to them.

Places
Some places are worth knowing about.
The table worth booking.
The garden worth getting lost in.
The hotel that gets the small things right.
The shop you could spend an afternoon exploring.
The building everybody walks past without looking up.
The place somebody tells you about and you immediately think:
“I'd like to go there.”
Food & Drink
Because lunch can be the reason for going.
Interesting chefs.
Exceptional producers.
Restaurants worth travelling for.
The story behind something we eat without thinking about it.
A very good bottle of something.
The rituals around a table.
And the places where somehow three hours disappear over lunch.
Food is rarely only about food.

Home & Garden
The places we live say rather a lot about us.
Homes should be interesting.
Gardens should be lived in.
Design should make life easier without announcing itself.
And occasionally somebody creates a space so good that you simply want to understand why it works.
Good design isn't about age.
It's about life.
Culture
Things worth having an opinion about.
- Books.
- Music.
- Theatre.
- Art.
- Film.
- History.
- Craft.
- Style.
- Architecture.
- Performance.
And occasionally something nobody can quite agree about.
Good.
That usually makes the conversation more interesting.

Life
Not everything needs a category.
Some Journal pieces might simply begin with an observation.
Something somebody said.
Something we noticed.
A question.
A tradition that's disappearing.
Something that's changing.
Something perhaps worth protecting.
Or something we think deserves another look.
Curiosity is enough.
The conversation continues
Sometimes What's On becomes something worth reading.
A fascinating guest joins us for lunch.
We visit somewhere extraordinary.
Somebody demonstrates something none of us knew much about.
A conversation begins.
It doesn't necessarily have to end when everyone goes home.
The Journal gives us somewhere to continue it.
- What's On
- Experience
- Conversation
- Journal
And sometimes reading leads somewhere
“We should go there.”
Perhaps we discover somebody fascinating while creating a Journal story.
Perhaps an article uncovers somewhere members would love.
Perhaps a restaurant becomes a future lunch.
A craftsperson becomes a Lounge guest.
A place becomes an Escape.
The different parts of Harris James should feed one another naturally.
Interesting things tend to lead to other interesting things.
The world doesn't become less interesting because you get older.
Neither should your world.
